So as of now, most people have posted on the blog, and it has been decided by a few of us that a weekly goal process would be beneficial, so that will be instituted for the first time this week. It should be a weekly process, but being that this is the first one, and not everyone has posted yet, two weeks instead might be better.
GOAL #1: HAVE FUN SKETCHING.
It probably sounds a bit mechanical to have "fun" as a goal, but its very important if you're going to be sketching a lot--you should enjoy it. Now the method to accomplish this goal is very vague, and most probably will not be the same for everyone. However, a few suggestions automatically come to mind:
+JOKE AROUND!- Sketch jokes! Sketch epic battles between tanks and jet planes 'n shit. Sketch somebody getting MCCLUSKY'D.
+DESIGN FOR A (FICTIONAL) CHARACTER- When I was at AAU, a few of the senior car designers told me about how in their sophomore year or so, they were given an assignment to design cars for fictional characters. One guy told me he designed a BAT MOBILE. Another guy told me he designed for 50 CENT. While this is funny, at the same time it is no less of a design challenge. What kind of needs does BATMAN have? His car probably moves very fast. How does it achieve that? With a JET THRUSTER?! Or is that technology not available, and so is the BAT MOBILE just REALLY AERODYNAMIC? 50 CENT probably wants a fat ass sound system and a jacuzzi in his car. So, as you can see, this gives you plenty of opportunity to mess around with sketching, and at the same time, has ample room for LOTS of OVERTHINKING (design thinking). This, I think is a very good method for playing with sketching and design in general.
SO HAVE FUN. If you are having trouble thinking of what to sketch, it has been suggested that you try to sketch sound systems--either HEADPHONES like what has already been done, or PORTABLE SPEAKER SYSTEMS. What kind of portable speakers would THAT GUY have? Probably really douchey ones.
So, for the last time, HAVE FUN. Please post within the next two weeks. People should provide crits (comment) for every post so that we can all progress.
Thank you for participating. If you have any suggestions or problems, discuss it in the Facebook thread.
